    The first time I have seen these strange looking gilled fungi. The only gills I saw were on the dead one (last image), so they must develop right at the end of the life of the fruit body. A large fresh clump about 20 cm across was not far from two dead clumps in grass at the side of a track.

    A smallish specimen about 5 cm across. The top splits open, spilling bright purple spores into the air and onto the surrounding ground.

    Found growing on the underside of a dead log. If it grows on a vertical log this fungus forms soft narrow brackets, greenish with pale margins.
