Diptera are a hugely diverse group of Australian insects - some of which affect the lives of us all on a daily basis. Of an estimated 30,000 species, and with less than a quarter of those described, we have so much more to learn. Anything with halteres is welcome here.

    Austrophorocera
    (genus)
Taxonomy: Animalia: Arthropoda: Insecta: Diptera: Tachinidae: Austrophorocera
    James Lumbers says

Appears to be an undescribed species of the genus Austrophorocera (male), and most closely matches a female specimen of an undescribed Austrophorocera species collected from Annan River, FNQ, in the CSIRO ANIC. Austrophorocera Townsend, 1916 may be congeneric with the Eozenilla Townsend, 1926 (according to Crosskey, 1973 "Conspectus of Australian Tachinidae"), although DNA work will be needed to better determine if this is the case. Bowerbird Observation 120673 is possibly an Eozenilla sp. (based primarily on host ID) from Victoria, which was reared from a Hyalarcta nigrescens (Psychidae) pupa.
