Gilwell Park was established in the mid 1920's as a Scout Park. The original site was a timber mill, with much of the existing vegetation being natural regrowth. The Park is ecologically diverse with it's own Gilwell moth.

Glen Katherine PS is situated in Eltham North and has an emphasis on environmental education and science. Since 1999 it has been developing a wildlife corridor complete with storm water catchment. Its grounds boast a range of flora and fauna that the students study.
The project is aimed at capturing the unique flora and fauna of the Cooloola Recreation Park in an attempt to highlight the diversity of this area and preserve it for present and future users. Based in the Cooloola Recreation Park in the Greater Sandy National Park, this area lies on the border of Noosa Biosphere and Cooloola Biosphere and includes Lake Cootharaba. The region is home to native flora and fauna found in Wet Eucalypt Forests. The area supports the residential community of Boreen Point and Cootharaba.
