    Glossodia major
    (species)
Taxonomy: Plantae: Angiospermae: Monocotyledoneae: Asparagales: Orchidaceae: Glossodia: major
Common Names: Orchid family, Wax-lip Orchid, Waxlip Orchid, Parson-in-the-Pulpit
    Liz O'Donnell says

Orchid with star-shaped purple flower, labellum white and purple, yellow calli shaped like small whale tail, single dark green leaf. Height only 10cm but growing on rocky substrate. Given height, possible ID of Glossodia minor also considered but in that species, the labellum colour is usually different and the calli is also shaped differently (like a pair of snail horns, not fused as in this speciment).

Found on west-facing slope while looking for something completely different. Only one specimen found but no time to do a thorough check for others on the day. Came back three days later and did more thorough check with no results... but that's orchids for you.
