Taxonomy: Animalia: Arthropoda: Insecta: Diptera: Bibionidae: Dilophus

A Dilophus sp. - looking at the foretibiae, there are indications of the presence of a set of spines both around midway and apically. The females have vastly different heads and often differently coloured body too.

This was an interesting fly with those enveloping eyes - I suspect it can see quite well but not think very well as there is not space left on the head. :) I photographed this one too but from memory didn't get very good shots.

The eyes and body shape remind me of those Dance Flies (Hybos sp.), but the segmented hind leg is bizarre.

Thanks Carol and Reiner! The extra images show well the spine sets on the foretibiae which are characteristic of Dilophus.
