I couldn't agree more Graeme. It's the things you see everday that you tend to skip over because "they'll always be there and you'll get a shot another day"! Thanks again Tony, I'm happy if we can get them down to any level but species is great! I went and had a look around and it seems these are the little guys that swarm up out of the lawn in the warmer months. Anyway, I've added some new pics, a couple taken last night on the sheet (sadly with the camera on the wrong setting) and one this morning on the car window as the cabin was full of them.

My money is on Hydrellia tritici. What is seen, and body length, is within this species and if in numbers every night at the sheet, then also likely as probably the most numerous acalyptrate fly in south eastern Australia.

It's odd Graeme but as I said, the sheet ends up covered in these and I think I've only ever once tried to photograph one. I'll see what I can do tonight.

Another picture of the fly would help, particularly one with a head. The pale halteres suggest Agromyzidae or Milichiidae.

So sorry Tony, I only just saw your post and ID now. I have changed the title to reflect your ID. Thanks again! We get 1000's of these little guys at the sheet.

I can relate to that. The Insects/animals/plants I see the most are the least photographed.

I'll stick this up as one sighting for now but if anyone can identify either (someone should be able to name the fly) I will add a second sighting. These flies often cover our sheet and last night there would have been hundreds.
