    There are similar specimens shown on Plate 335 of Zimmerman (1992). There is not a perfect match with yours but the elytral patterns are apparently quite variable. Another note is that your weevil appears to be clawless which is a feature in line with Aonychus.

    Thanks Boris. I've observed two of these, one on Acacia elongata at Kurri Kurri and the other on Grevilleamontana, at North Rothbury: 20kms apart in the Lower Hunter Valley.

    Zimmerman Vol.5, plate 95 shows Aonychus bicruciatus Lea, 1905. The specimen is almost identical with yours, except the second side spot siccle-shaped, and open towards spot 3. This may not be relevant at all, and I would not hesitate to ID is as that species, if not Zimmerman Vol III lists A. bicruciatus for WA and NT only.
