    Teia anartoides
    (species)
Taxonomy: Animalia: Arthropoda: Insecta: Lepidoptera: Lymantriidae: Teia: anartoides
Common Names: Moths, Lymantriids, painted apple moth, Painted Apple Moth
    Andy Arnold says

I think this a specimen of a Painted Apple Moth, a native species but apparently partial to introduced fruits especially those in the Family Rosaceae. Damage to fruit seemed to be very superficial just eating the skin of the fruit.

The dorsal surface has dense tufts of hairs which is what makes me think it is a tussock moth. Photo of damage to the fruit is seen in the second photo.
