Can anyone help a couple of interested Kilmore bird followers with the identification of this little little bird. We have been monitoring and recording birds in the area for many, many years but his one is new to us. It was found dead, under a tree in a paddock on the urban rural edge of Kilmore. Kilmore is about 60 kilometres north of Melbourne. We cannot find anything like it in our books, nor in our long memories. Finch? Robin? The long white tail and forehead should be a clue? The brown feather and spot on the wings should also be indicators. Perhaps it is a young bird without adult markings. Could it be an escapee from an aviary? Perhaps someone a long way from home. One suggestion has been a whydah but I do not think the tail feathers are long enough although they could have perhaps come away. It has us baffled. Any idea?
